St Marys Old Boys vs. London Welsh 25th October 2009 For the second time in as many weeks London Welsh made the trip down the M4 to Bristol. This weeks opponents St Marys Old Boys Ladies. The upgrade in the coach was noted and much appreciated by the players! After a quick stop at the service station and a little bit of a delay due to a rather small bridge (What bridge? Did anyone see a bridge? Not me officer!) we arrived in good time. Preparations began and the kickers marched out to test out the blustery conditions, breaking Ruth’s thumb in the process, but in true London Welsh spirit she taped it up and carried on regardless. With injury forcing Coach Miss Meston out of retirement and into the no 9 shirt everyone was on their best behaviour. Welsh started strongly, actually that’s kind of an understatement, I think we had 20 points on the board in the 1st 20mins. The pace was quick with the forwards rucking over to give the backs quick, clean ball which they were using to find space out wide. The second half was a bit more of a battle, St Marys coming back more determined but the score line kept ticking over in London Welshs favour. The final score was St Marys Old Boys 0 - 44 London Welsh Tries were scored by Nicky, Leah, Bryoni, Wolfie, Kristy and Catherine. The singing on the way back was less spectacular than the rugby, much practice needed before tour I think! Forward of the Match - Leah Back of the Match - Nicky
