Matches

The women's club currently is in the Championship South West 2, playing teams from London, Kent,  Surrey and Sussex, and Suffolk.  As well as competitive league games, we have a schedule of friendlies to introduce new players and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to play.  We also compete in the RFUW's Cup system, and reached the final of the North-South Challenge Cup in the 2004/5 and 2005/6.  In 2004, we won the National Challenge Cup (South) in a dramatic penalty 'shoot out' after extra time failed to separate the two teams!!

Winter Training

During the winter, training is on Monday and Wednesdays at 7.30 pm at the London Welsh Club. Our winter training involves ball skills, fitness, unopposed and specialist position training.  We have excellent coaches, our head coach has completed his RFU level 2 coaching certificate...

Summer Training

There are a few months' break at the end of season, after which summer training starts at 'Park by the Pools' at 7.30pm on a weekday evening.

The Team List

The average age of the team is 27 years old but this does not do justice to the range of ages.  The club accepts players of any age from 18; you can play until you feel there is no more life in you!! LWWRFC’s club members, when not playing rugby, are involved in various spheres; among others, we have a few students, a librarian, a selection of accountants (well, they need some release from their stimulating profession), teachers, lawyers and a civil servant. The team really has a most eclectic mix of people.

As for experience, the average length of time that members have been playing rugby is 4.8 years (with one player having played for 13 years and a number of complete novices to the game).  Players have joined us having played for clubs in Bologna, Barcelona and Toulouse as well as from many prestigious clubs in the UK.  We also have players from all over the world from Catalonia to Australia and from New Zealand to Canada. There is still a core of Welsh players too who are more than happy to spread the Welsh message throughout the team!!

The Social Side

LWWRFC is a friendly, social club.  We organise socials throughout the year to ensure that the girls are not just playing rugby but are also playing with friends.  We also go on tour each year: April 1999 saw us go to Dublin, to the Guinness capital!!  May 2000 we went further afield with a trip to Barcelona.  Modernista architecture may not have been the first thing on everyone's mind but it was a fantastic place to tour.  May 2001 saw us visit Rennes, in Brittany to play against our Celtic brethren.  May 2002 saw us visit Edinburgh and in 2003 we took Cork by storm. In 2004 we took in the delights of Eastern Europe, with an amazing trip to Ljublijana, capital of Slovenia. In 2005 we returned to Wales, visiting Swansea in our 20th anniversary year, and in 2006 we rounded off an amazing season with a brilliant tour to Viadana in Northern Italy.
