Friday, 09 July 2010

It's the start of a brand new season at Old Deer Park for the London Welsh Women and what it season it's going to be!

Come join us September 11th for Super Hero Jelly Wrestling. That's right, the women of London Welsh and all other willing and eager participants will be dressing up as all your best loved super heroes and wrestling in vats of wrestling jelly! Competitors will partake in one of three competitions, Jelly Babes, Jelly Bellies and the Open Contest so come on down to Old Deer Park for a fun and action packed night, participants and spectators all welcome, the show begins at 6 pm.

London Welsh will play there first friendly game Sunday September 19th, details to follow soon.

Have a gander Berlin tour report, photos soon to follow!

Pre-season training went well with everyone getting back into their stride we were out in force to enjoy the last of the summer weather. From September 6th on we will return to Old Deer park for two nights training a week, every Monday and Wednesday as everyone starts gearing towards the beginning of this year's league.

The South West league will, I'm sure, prove to be just as challenging this year as last but I know that all our girls are keen to get stuck in and off to a winning start. October 3rd marks the London Welsh Women first league game of the season where they will play host to the women from Plymouth. From there London Welsh hope to press on victorious with 7 more league games before the short Christmas break, not forgetting all the never-to-missed social events between now and then, organised this season by the terrorsome trio of Nicky, Jane and Kat (Stay tuned for more details!).

The club are always looking for new players so why not come along and see what we are all about. London Welsh Women are a hard-working but fun-loving bunch who want to play competitive rugby and knock some enjoyment out of it along the way. Pre-season training is every Wednesday at 7.30 pm at Pools on the Park in Richmond. Once September rolls around we relocate to the London Welsh grounds on Kew Road, just a short stroll from Richmond station, where we train every Monday and Wednesday at 7.30 pm. We are a competitive side finishing in the top half of the South West League last season and with four members of the squad joining the Middlesex County team and one in the Thames Valley Regional team we're definitely a force to be reckoned with. We welcome players of all ability so please don't be shy if your a first timer, and we are always on the look out for new and enthusiastic coaches.

Matches

The women's club currently is in the Championship South West 2, playing teams from London, Kent,  Surrey and Sussex, and Suffolk.  As well as competitive league games, we have a schedule of friendlies to introduce new players and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to play.  We also compete in the RFUW's Cup system, and reached the final of the North-South Challenge Cup in the 2004/5 and 2005/6.  In 2004, we won the National Challenge Cup (South) in a dramatic penalty 'shoot out' after extra time failed to separate the two teams!!
