Starting the Season in Style - Kay's Cup Winners

London Welsh Women play their first pre-season friendlies at Rosslyn Park and come away Kay's Cup winners!

Match Report for Kay's Cup at Rosslyn Park

After a long pre-season LWWRFC were finally able to dust off their boots for the opening of their 30th season! The tournament was a round robin style, with LWWRFC playing Rosslyn Park and Harlequins.

With a relatively new squad this was a great opportunity to for new players to get game time and to try out some new position combinations.

Game 1 - LW v Rosslyn Park -: 24 - 0.

LWWRFC came out strong against Rosslyn Park and dominated the first half, with Clare Street off to a fantastic start with two early tries. With a fast paced game style and solid scrum LWWRFC looked confident with excellent handling on display by the backline. During the second half the pace slowed, with LWWRFC forced to defend a consistent period of attack by Rosslyn Park. However, a last minute try by Clare Street sealed the game.

Game 2 - LW v Harlequins -: 36 - 0.

After a (too) short break, LW were back against Harlequins. From the start the tries came quick, and Harlequins struggled against the big runners from London Welsh, particularly Hannah Clarke and Rebecca Rowe. With excellent tackling from Bryoni Lynch throughout the day, Harlequins were unable to get a foothold. Jane Crowther also stepped in to the scrum half position due to an injury during this game and had a fantastic debut in that position.

Try Scorers

Clare Street - 6 tries

Rebecca Rowe - 2 tries

Kat Bruce - 1 try

Kyra Howell - 1 try

Laura Mace - 1 try

With lots to take away from these game, this was an excellent start to the season for LWWRFC, in particular for our new players who really stepped up to the challenge.
