By far the most chilled yet smoothly organised tour to date, combining German efficiency with a Spanish twist. An early morning coffee start was much appreciated as we gathered with anticipation at Heathrow Terminal 5. A smooth flight into Berlin was marked only by Barney spotting a renowned author asleep at the front of the plane, and Leroy’s frantic, yet ultimately doomed conspiracy with the chief stewardess to try and meet him – she later stalked him into baggage reclaim, provoking him to post on Twitter referring to us as ladies having only met her. Was it her choice of attire?... |

Stuart Mangan Appeal - RP Host Charity Match |
Thursday, 23 April 2009 |
Rosslyn Park are playing host to a charity match on Friday 24th April in aid of the Stuart Mangan Appeal. “On April 5th 2008 Stuart broke his neck whilst playing fly half for Hammersmith & Fulham’s Second XV in an end of season friendly. As a result of this injury, which is extremely rare, Stuart has no feeling below his neck, is on a ventilator and requires 24 hr nursing care; unfortunately his condition is unlikely to improve. In spite of this Stuart has a remarkably positive outlook to life, has already left hospital and is now living, with the support of his carers, in his own flat. To ensure that Stuart enjoys the best quality of life possible, we need to raise as much money as possible.
“This money will be used to ensure that his accommodation is as comfortable as possible, that he has the most appropriate equipment necessary for him to get out and about and all of the medical support that he requires.” The evening’s rugby entertainment begins with the Rosslyn Park Slingbacks opening the bill against Hammersmith & Fulham Ladies. Kick off 6:15pm. Before a Rosslyn Park President’s XV take to the field to face a Middlesex President’s XV (coached by former London Welsh coach and Occie Dai Michael) under floodlights. Kick off 7:45pm. The Middlesex President’s XV is an invitational side and will be made up of players from London Scottish, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Grasshoppers and Civil Service among others. Entrance £5 (children free), parking £5 - All proceeds to the Stuart Mangan Appeal. Food and drink available – prize raffle To find out more about the Stuart Mangan Appeal visit: www.SMAppeal.co.uk |

LWWRFC welcomes star guest coach! |
Thursday, 29 January 2009 |
LWWRFC were extremely pleased to welcome England International and Saracens player Maggie Alphonsi to the club on Wednesday 10th September. Maggie came down to run a specialist training session for back row players in the squad. The session was enjoyable and extremely constructive: centred on the job of the tackler, the focus was on correct technique and body positioning. This season the new ELV rulings will affect the flow of the game at break down situations, the session aimed to highlight the importance of ball awareness once a tackle has been made. Thanks go to Maggie for a great session! |

London Welsh Women's Rugby are happy to be representing and supporting the Middlesex County team again this season. Congratulations to Caroline Wolfendale, Kim Horstmanshof and Linda Merritt for their inclusion in the starting line-up for the first matches of the competition. The games got under way on the 28th of September, with the side travelling to Hove to play two games. Middlesex making it two wins in a row beating Sussex 39-0 and Hertfordshire 24-0. Wolfie, as Middlesex Team Captain, wrote the following; “After only two training sessions and a slightly tentative start, Middlesex showed great strength of character in gelling as a team to produce two brilliant performances against Sussex and Hertfordshire. The forwards were outstanding in winning both line-outs and scrums against the head, whilst securing a solid platform for the speedy backs who pulled the opposition apart in the midfield to offload to the back three who ran round the opposition. We did exceptionally well in not conceding any points, and scoring a total of 63 points in two matches. I was very proud of the way all 22 players performed and look forward to the next round in the competition.” The competition continued with Middlesex playing Kent in the semi-final. Wolfie continued her reign as Captain, and was kept company by her London Welsh team-mates Kim Horstmanshof and Jane Crowther - who have also been included in the starting side. Congratulations also went out to ex-London Welsh player Nicky Hill for her inclusion in the 22. The game was played at Tabard RFC, it saw Middlesex continue their unbeaten run with a 30-5 win over the Kent side.
